Of course, it goes without saying that at the moment being able to entertain friends and family members in our own homes seems like a distant memory. However, whilst things may be a little tricky at the moment, things are going to change and one day we will be back to our “normal” lives, having dinner parties, arranging play dates and even throwing parties for our friends.
Whilst you have the time without people coming into your home, right now is a great opportunity to think about transforming your home and making sure that it looks the best that it can. Whether that is for your family, or for any visitors that you may have.
So, why not think about how you can transform the entertaining space within your home whilst you have the chance?
You might not always think of your garden as a key part of your home, but when it comes to entertaining people, it actually is something that you really need to pay attention to. During lockdown we have realised that being able to sit down with friends and family outside is a key part of getting together, so, if you want to make the ideal entertaining space in your home, then taking a look at your garden is definitely going to be a part of this.
Not only should your garden be clear, open and have plenty of seating to invite people out, but it also should be seen as a part of your entire house. You need to have a sense of flow from the house into the garden, which will ensure that it feels like one space rather than broken up sections.
Whilst much of your entertaining is likely to go on into the night, this doesn’t mean that you should overlook how light and open your home is. Visitors are going to feel much more relaxed in a space that is well lit and feels fresh, rather than feeling that they are cramped up in a more enclosed space. Of course, not everyone is able to extend their property, or re-work the space that they have. However, one thing that they can do is to make sure that there is plenty of light in the room and that it flows through.

Many homes have a focal point, a room that feels like the centre of the home and in which people come together. It is a good idea to think about which room is going to fit best for you and then make it that focal point. For some this could be the living room, whilst for others it may be the kitchen. Whatever room you pick, the idea should always be that it is inviting and that it is somewhere that your guests will want to be.
When you have people over, they are going to want to have somewhere to sit and relax. Which means that one of the most important considerations when creating an entertaining space for your home, is to think about the seating that you have. Offering plenty of seating might not always be easy when you are short on space, however, there are lots of space-saving seating options out there to choose from that you are sure to find something that works for you.
Now, we know that much of what we have pointed out relates to open spaces and plenty of room, but what about when you want to feel close to those who are spending time with you? This means that a great contrast to have in your home is to include areas that are more intimate in their nature, often a dining room or perhaps an additional living room is perfect for this. When you have an intimate spot in your home, you may find that this is great or a one-on-one chat with a friend, but not quite so fitting when you have several friends over one evening.
It isn’t always going to be the case, but sometimes when you have a guest over, their stay will end up being much later than anyone planned. If this is the case then they are going to need to have somewhere to stay the night. Rather than scrabbling around trying to find somewhere for them to sleep, it is a good idea to have a back-up plan should this ever happen to you. Now, we don’t mean that you need to have a guest bedroom, but being able to offer them some kind of spot to rest their head is definitely going to be appreciated.
